Robyn McClimond, 8 wickets for the Fourths

Match report Waringstown IV v Laurelvale III Lindsay Minor cup

Waringstown 149 Laurelvale 25

Playing cricket every now and then you get to be involved in a game when something special happens. Saturday’s game was one of those.

We lost the toss and were put into bat, a strong performance from Matthew Bell with 44 and a good 32 from Ryan Calvert, also in the runs was James Mitchell scoring a fine 20.

But we let ourselves down with too many wickets going down at regular intervals so we failed to capitalise on what could have been a high score, we finished with 149 all out with almost 25 over’s left out of the 50.

We knew that we would have to bowl well to secure the win. Queue Robyn McClimond with a bowling display that you rarely get to see.  He was supported by Jeffrey Sergeant at the other end who secured two wickets himself, but it was mostly a one man show.  A wicket in the first over was only a hint of what was to come, after 4 overs with no runs off the bat and a maiden and a wicket maiden, the fifth over was a hat-trick maiden with the hat-trick ball giving him a five for. But it was not to end there…the very next over producing yet another hat-trick and only one run.

Robyn’s final figures were 6 over’s, 3 maidens, 8 wickets for 3 runs including a double hat-trick with the opposition bowled out for 25.

We now move on to the second round of the cup.

Waringstown IV 193 v Muckamore III 186 24/4/10

The season got underway on Saturday with a game against a strong Muckamore side.

Put into bat first we got off to a good start with Rab and Arron Kennedy controlling the opening bowlers.

With the loss of Arron in came Matthew Allen who blazed the ball to all parts of the ground making a stunning 106 including 6x sixes and 8x fours, when Rab fell for 23 these two scores proved to be the back bone of our 193, the collapse of the middle order lessened what would have been a daunting total.

Muckamore’s reply was steady, after losing a wicket in the fourth over their Michael Kennedy pushed onto 61.  Most of our bowler’s shared one wicket a piece and a run out.

The game was getting close and with the bowling change of Giles Parris the hope was to stem the run flow, with steady fall of wickets towards the end of Muckamore’s innings it came to the last over with them requiring 10 runs to win, the 3rd ball of the over rocketed to the boundary only to find the capable hands of Rab, who gladly bagged the catch. It was now 8 to win off 3 balls with one wicket remaining; the next ball bowled the last batsman to win by 8 runs with Giles finishing with 5-34.

A good start for 2010

With a great display by the clubs young and not so young talent.
