Mid Week Match Reports
Waringstown mid-week team this week travelled to Instonians and were involved in a thrilling encounter at Shaws Bridge. On our arrival we were greeted by a vastly more experienced Instonians side and with us giving debut’s to 5 girls from our ladies team it was going to be quite a challenge. We got off to a great start as Rose Montomery made light of the opening bowlers and looked set for a big score until inexplicably being run out by her opening partner Alan Harrison. This brought Kris Lyness to the wicket and he set about compiling a fine 32 not our as he caressed the ball to all parts of the ground. But a series of quick wickets once again had us on the back foot, Que Giles Parris in a matter of 3 overs he had changed the game clearing the ropes on no fewer that 4 occasions. He was 35 not at out the end and we had 133 on the board.
Although 133 was a decent total there was still a lot of work to be done, we started brightly as Lynne Carpenter took 2 early wickets and probably should have had two more but for a couple of dropped catches. Lynne was backed up by a superb spell of quick bowling by Andrew Sinnamon. The pressure was now building on Instonians but a series of lusty blows once again turned the game in their favour. A few more tight overs from Giles Parris and Jane Cousins meant that Instonians needed 8 of the last over which they duly got. But all credit to everyone who, the game was played in great spirit by both teams and many thanks to instonians inviting us back for a drink after. It would not be right to not give special mention to Helen Morrison, Jude Latimer, Jane Cousins, Lynne Carpenter and Rose Montgomery all playing their first ever game at this level. They all preformed admirably and we hope to see more ladies turning out for both the Mid-week and Saturday teams in the near future.
On the whole a throughly enjoyable night of cricket…
