Waringstown U15s start League campaign with a win.
After an under par performance in the first round of the Graham Cup the U15s had a lot to prove as they welcomed Laurlevale to The Lawn. Batting first, under overcast conditions, the young villagers were soon under pressure with the loss of Adam Dennison, Ryan Calvert and Craig Kennedy. The visitors opening bowlers found good lines and after 10 overs the Waringstown total was only 30 for 3. However an excellent partnership of 97 developed between skipper Aaron Kennedy ( 68 no) and Sam Wilson (26 no). Both boys batted through the remainder of the innings with maturity and composure to leave the home side with a respectable 115 for 3 off 20 overs.
Aaron and Ryan applied early pressure with the swinging ball with the former removing both openers and the latter conceding just one run from three overs. The visitors unsteady start then got worse as James Mitchell and Adam Dennison were introduced into the attack. James’ second delivery took the edge and was caught by Craig Kennedy while the fifth and sixth balls of his first over removed the off and middle stumps respectively. Adam followed James’ triple wicket maiden with a double wicket maiden of his own to leave the visitors on 17 for 7 after 10 overs.
There was good focus and determination in the field, to support the bowlers, by all the Waringstown lads and Laurelvale batted through to a total of 49 leaving the home team victorious by 66 runs .
