It is with great sadness that the club reports the death of Deryck Harrison – the fourth member of the Harrison family to pass away since the autumn of last year.
“Wee D” was a wonderful batsman, quick on his feet and inventive in his shot play in a manner which would have been ideally suited to today’s modern game.
He played 398 times for Waringstown, captaining the team in exactly 100 games and scoring 8083 runs.
He was an exceptional fielder and renowned for his sportsmanship on and off the field.
Deryck won 11 caps for Ireland between 1978 and 1980.
When his playing career was finished, he held the post of treasurer for many years and was one of the group responsible for the purchase of The Lawn in the late 1980s.
His contribution to the club was immense and he will be greatly missed.
On behalf of the club, our sympathies to Anne, Debbie, Jenny, Lynne and Richard.
