Our first eleven came out of the wrong end of an enthralling Lagan Valley Steels T20 Cup final on Sunday, losing to Lisburn by just seven runs at The Lawn.
The day will be remembered first for Ben Calitz’s stunning 133 not out from just 48 balls as Lisburn piled up a massive 218 for two in a game reduced to 19 overs per side.
The odds on Waringstown getting close to a revised target of 221 lengthened massively as Steve Stolk went attempting a big shot from the second ball of the run chase, but Graham Hume led a stirring fightback in partnerships with Tom Mayes and Adam Dennison.
The target came down to a potentially manageable 59 from the last five overs, with Hume striking seven sixes and four fours in a superb 86 from just 48 balls.
The turning point came when he was caught just a yard in from the long-on boundary in the 17th over, and despite 29 from only 15 balls from Dennison, we fell agonisingly short in the final over.
Congratulations to Lisburn on their victory and on both teams for a richly entertaining final.
